Former Tight End Jimmie Giles Announced Buccaneers’ Second & Third Round Picks

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Former Alcorn Braves and Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Jimmie Giles stood at the podium and revealed the defending Super Bowl Champions' second and third round picks in front of a nationally televised crowd Friday evening.

The draft picks that he was bestowed the honor of delivering were the 64th and 95th overall picks which turned out to be Florida quarterback Kyle Trask and Notre Dame offensive lineman Robert Hainsey, respectively.

Giles, a Black College Hall of Famer, lettered for the Braves football program from 1974 to 1976 and is still the seventh-highest NFL draft pick in school history when he was taken by the Houston Oilers in the third round of the 1977 draft with the 70th overall pick.

The Greenville, Mississippi native went on to have the second-longest NFL tenure among former Braves, playing 13 seasons with his best years coming from 1978 to 1986 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After joining the Bucs via trade in '78, the tight end appeared in four pro bowls, including three straight from 1980-1982, amassing 5,084 yards on 350 receptions and 41 touchdowns for the Buccaneers (1978-1986), Philadelphia Eagles (1987-1989), Detroit Lions (1986-1987) and Houston Oilers (1977).

On December 4, 2011, he was inducted into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Ring of Honor at halftime against the Carolina Panthers.
