Parker & Dorsey Sweep SWAC Weekly Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alcorn State University softball program was recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference on April 30 when Kiri Parker and Ambria Dorsey won conference hitter and pitcher of the week, respectively.

Parker, a sophomore from Vacherie, Louisiana, came up big when the Lady Braves needed it the most in its series win over Jackson State, hitting .545 with her first three career home runs and eight career RBIs, reached base nine times (6 hits, 3 walks), scored five times and totaled 16 bases over three games. Coming into the series, she had only two hits in her entire Lady Braves tenure and both of those were singles.

Dorsey, a fifth-year senior/graduate student from Phoenix, Arizona, claimed her second SWAC weekly accolade of her career in the same series. Over two appearances, the chemistry major went a combined 10.0 frames while averaging a strikeout per inning including a season-best eight punchouts in a complete game during the series deciding finale. In the process, she moved into third place on the program's all-time strikeouts list (200) plus picked up her 16th victory in Purple and Gold, the sixth-most in school history.

Parker, Dorsey and the rest of the Lady Braves begin its final road trip of the regular season with a three-game set at Mississippi Valley State, starting with a 3 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday followed by a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
