PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Alcorn State University men's track & field team claimed two silvers and one bronze medal during this year's outdoor SWAC Championship on the campus of Prairie View A&M University.
Bralon Robinson broke a record that had previously stood for the past 51 years, running a 10.20 100m dash to finish in second-place and eclipse the previous mark by 0.02 seconds (10.22) which was held by Willie McGee since 1970. He received a silver medal for his effort in the event while picking up a second silver as part of the 4x100m relay team that ran a 41.12.
"I'm elated yet humbled to break the school record in the 100m dash and receiving silver in the race. All praises go to God because I battled injuries this outdoor season and thought I would never return to form," Robinson said. "This is just a reminder that everything goes according to God's timing."
Also on that 4x100m second-place winning team was Ashton DeFreeze, JaKobe Rogers and Arrington Robinson as the anchor.
Christian Franklin was the only other individual Brave to medal, grabbing a bronze during the 10,000m with a time of 33:11.60. The freshman from Las Vegas, Nevada garnered an additional seven points for Alcorn as he had five in a fourth-place finish during the 1500m (4:02.85) and helped get two points with the 4x400m relay quartet that came in seventh (3:22.31).
Jachius Spears was able to put five points on the board at fourth for the 110 hurdles at 14.60, Jae Sutherland won two points for his 55.61-second 400 hurdles time where he finished seventh and Elijah Anderson capped off the point scoring for the Purple and Gold with one for placing eighth in the 5000m with a 17:13.33 time.
The season has been completed for all but one Brave as Bralon Robinson qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the 100m, which will take place in Jacksonville, Florida from May 26-29. The first round for Robinson's event will be conducted at 7 p.m. on May 26 with the quarterfinals being held 7:05 p.m. on May 28.
