RALEIGH, N.C. – Alcorn running back
Jarveon Howard was named to the 2022 BOXTOROW All-America Team, announced this week from the BOXTOROW home office in Raleigh, North Carolina. Last week, Howard was named to the Phil Steele All-SWAC Team.

This is Howard's first appearance to the BOXTOROW All-America Team.

BOXTOROW has named All-America teams since 2007 based on voting by national media who cover HBCU football.

Howard, a senior from Columbia, Mississippi, arrived at Alcorn prior to the start of the 2022 season after transferring from Syracuse. He would go on to be named the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Newcomer of the Year this past season.

Throughout the 2022 campaign, the East Marion High School product was named SWAC Newcomer of the Week on two occasions. He ended the year leading the conference in rushing yards (1,275) while ranking fourth in scoring (78 points). He ended his season tied for 20th in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) with 12 rushing touchdowns, while placing himself eighth in the FCS in rushing yards. Howard rushed for a season-high 299 yards and four touchdowns against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He tallied 199 yards and a score on the ground in his Alcorn debut against No. 10 Stephen F. Austin. Howard contributed five (5) games of 100 yards or more throughout the 2022 campaign.

Florida A&M led the way with six selections, including three repeat performers: defensive end Isaiah Land, wide receiver Xavier Smith, and punter Chris Faddoul. Jackson State had five selections, including a repeat performer in linebacker Aubrey Miller.

NCCU defensive back Khalil Baker was one of two Eagle players named to the team. Virginia Union running back Jada Byers received the most overall votes.

In total, 15 programs are represented of the 28 selections. Benedict, South Carolina State, and Southern also had two selections each.

The BOXTOROW Superlative Awards will be announced on Wednesday. The awards include players of the year on offense and defense, specialist of the year, rookie of the year, coach of the year, and the impact player award.
