Softball to Host Grambling in Three-Game Series

LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State softball team will be back in action this weekend, hosting conference-rival Grambling State University in a three-game series. The Braves (8-18, 1-5 Southwestern Athletic Conference) will face the Tigers after ending an 11-game losing streak with an 8-6 victory over Prairie View A&M. Grambling (12-11, 2-4 SWAC) will take on Alcorn after suffering a series sweep at Southern University.

Desirea Lindsey leads the Braves at the plate. The Gulfport, Miss. native has played in 23 games with 22 starts for 56 at-bats, 13 runs, 18 hits (three doubles), and eight RBIs. She holds a .321 batting average and a .375 slugging percentage.

Kristian Edwards leads Alcorn in slugging. The Laurel, Miss. native carries a .468 slugging percentage with a .312 batting average. She has played and started in 22 games with 77 at-bats, 15 runs, and 24 hits (one double, four triples, and one home run), with a team-high 14 RBIs.

Kiri Parker (3-3) heads the bullpen with a 4.93 ERA in the circle. She has made 10 appearances with seven starts for three complete games. She has pitched 42.0 innings with 17 strikeouts. Batters see a .245 batting average against her.

India Wells leads the Tigers at the plate. She holds a .389 batting average and a .417 slugging percentage. Sherrell Matthews (4-1) leads Grambling in the circle with a 3.09 ERA with 32.0 innings pitched. Batters see a .248 batting average against her.

Alcorn and Grambling have faced off 47 times, and the Braves lead the series 31-16. The first game will be Friday, March 25 at 6 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Alcorn State Softball Complex, located on the campus of Alcorn State University.
