LORMAN, Miss. – The Lady Braves tennis team went 2-1 over the weekend, picking up matches against Xavier University and Mississippi Valley but falling 4-1 to Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday.
Alcorn State led with an explosive offense to dominate the Golden Nuggets and Devilettes, 4-1 and 4-0, respectively. The Lady Braves move to 5-15 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.
(ALCORN 4, XAVIER 1)
Against Xavier on Friday, the Lady Braves grabbed an early lead taking the first two sets of the doubles contest. Alcorn duo Mikaela Konstantinova and Aizat Zholdakayeva defeated Kareemah Muhammad and Valaine Clarke 6-2, and Jamie Edwards and Stefany Grlj topped Lindsey Dixon and Juliette Finch 6-1.
Konstantinova collected a point for Alcorn on court one in the singles competition, winning 6-3, 6-4 against Muhammed. Andrea Quiroz grabbed a second on court three, defeating Tianna Dixon 6-4, 6-1, and Veronica Rodriguez grabbed the Lady Braves' final point on court five with a 6-2, 6-0 over Valentina Largacha.
Xavier recorded just one point in the contest as Kimberly Kaome fell 6-3, 6-4, to Juilette Finch on the second court.

On Saturday, Alcorn State women's tennis made a clean sweep of Mississippi Valley State. The Lady Braves delivered a 4-0 shutout over the conference foe.
The teams did not compete in the doubles contest, so the singles decided the game. Konstantinov, Kaome, Quiroz, and Grlj grabbed one point each, defeating their opponent 6-0 on the various courts.

On Sunday, the Lady Braves were outplayed as Southeastern Louisiana defeated the Lady Braves 4-1. Quiroz was the only player to pick up a point for Alcorn in the singles contest. She defeated Polina Sleptsova 6-1, 6-0.
Southeastern picked up two doubles competitions for the first point of the match and recorded three in the singles for the win.
