NEW ORLEANS – The Lady Braves Tennis team fell 4-3 to Prairie View A&M in the quarterfinal round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. Alcorn closes the 2022 season 6-17 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
The Lady Braves took an early 1-0 over the Panthers, grabbing the doubles point. Alcorn duo Mikaela Konstantinova and Aizat Zholdakayeva took the first set against Ruju Chauhan and Salma Villalobos 6-2 on court three, and a fierce battle between Lady Braves pair Jaime Edwards and Stefany Grlj and PVAM duo Victoria Castillo and Green resulted in an Alcorn victory with Edwards and Grlj finishing on top 7-6, 7-3.
The singles contests were hard-fought, with four of the six games going to a third set. The Lady Braves took two of the games as Andrea Quiroz defeated Jada Hill 6-1, 1-6, 7-5, and Veronica Rodriguez took down Salma Villalobos 6-2, 6-2.
The Panthers grabbed the remaining games to take the match 4-3 and advance to the semifinals. The No. 3 PVAM will face No. 2 Alabama State tomorrow in the tournament's second round.
