PV Homerun Thwarts Softball Victory

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Despite tying the Lady Panthers in hits and having one of the most well-pitched games of the season, the Alcorn State softball team fell 1-0 in conference play against Prairie View A&M. The Lady Braves move to 7-21 on the season and 4-6 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. PV is 11-15 overall and 10-0 in the SWAC.

Senior pitcher Alexa Veamoi (4-12) threw the entire contest, allowing just one run on five hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. She faced 24 batters with one wild pitch.

PVAM starter Cailin Massey (5-5) tossed 7.0 shutout innings to collect her fifth win of the season. She allowed five hits with three strikeouts.

One homerun decided the fate of the contest in the bottom of the second frame. Lady Panther designated hitter Jaylyn Davis led off by connecting for a homer to score the RBI. This would be the game's only run to give the Panthers the 1-0 victory.

Marsha Hunt led the Lady Braves offense. She had a 2-for-3 appearance while Kristian Edwards landed a double, and Jamyiyah Cotton hit a triple.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow, Saturday, April 1, for a noon doubleheader at the Prairie View Softball Complex.
