Softball Drops Final Games at Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic

CONWAY, Ark. – The Lady Braves softball team blanks at the Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic, dropping the final two games of the two-day event. Alcorn State lost 9-1 to the University of South Dakota and 17-3 to the University of Nebraska – Omaha.

Alcorn moves to 3-13 on the season.

GAME ONE (L, 9-1)
The Lady Braves prevented a shutout with a run in the fourth inning, but South Dakota dominated Alcorn for most of the contest.

The Coyotes put up their first runs in the bottom of the first frame. Tatum Villotta led off for South Dakota with a single through the right side. She was then sent home on a triple off the bat of Alecea Mendoza. Mendoza scored the second run on a ground out from Courtney Wilson for the 2-0 lead over the Lady Braves.

The second and third innings went by scoreless, but Alcorn broke the silence with a run in the top of the fourth. Genise Wells singled to left center and advanced to third base on a fielding error by the left fielder. She scored on a single up the middle by Hannah Miller.

South Dakota put up three runs in the fifth. Mia Kraimer doubled to left center to bring Villotta home. Wilson singled up the middle to score Alexia Terrazas, and Bela Goerke doubled to left center to score Wilson.

The Coyotes claimed the victory and ended the contest in the sixth. South Dakota scored three additional runs to defeat the Lady Braves 9-1. Aleesia Sainz connected for a home run to center field for one RBI. Marquez singled to right field to score Jordyn Pender, and an error by the catcher brought Clara Edwards home on a fielder's choice.

Alexa Veamoi (1-4) took her fourth loss in the circle. She threw 5.0 innings for one strikeout, no walks, six hits against, and six earned runs.

Sainz led South Dakota at the plate. She made three plate appearances for two hits, including a home run, one run, and two RBIs.

Kori Wedeking (3-4) won the pitching battle. She pitched the six-inning contest for seven strikeouts, four hits against, one unearned run, and one walk.

Game Two (L, 17-3)

The Lady Braves dropped the final contest 17-3. Kiri Parker took the loss on the mound.

Alcorn softball will bring the game to Lorman on Friday, March 10, hosting Arkansas – Pine Bluff in the Lady Braves home opener. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m.
