- Southern Miss found the end zone twice and added a field goal in the opening quarter to take a quick 17-0 lead.
- Tyler Macon broke a 75-yard run with 3:50 to go in the first to make the score 17-7.
- The Eagles scored a touchdown and field goal during both the second and third quarters to take a 37-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
- Niko Duffey scored on a 15-yard run at the nine-minute mark of the fourth to make the score 37-14.
- USM closed the game with a 41-yard field goal making the final 40-14.
