LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University men's tennis garnered its first win of the 2024 season over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Feb. 6. The Braves defeated the Bulldogs with a 5-2 score.
In No. 1 doubles, Alcorn's
Luka Andonov and
Emmanuel Cottle defeated Gonzalo Cotter and Vincente Faria, 6-4. David Leon Mantilla and Yangho Park played at No. 2 doubles for the Braves and defeated Duarte Mestre and Triston Hill, 6-4. ASU's
Nikola Kijac and Noah Kiani were at No. 3 doubles and defeated Hiram Havard and Jeremiah Layton, 6-3.
In singles, at No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast's Cotter won by retirement. Leon Mantilla played at No. 2 and defeated Faria in two sets, 6-0 and 6-0. At No. 3, Kijac defeated Mestre with scores of 6-3 and 6-3. Cottle played at No. 4 and snapped up a win over Hill in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, and 6-0. Park was in the No. 5 spot and defeated Havard in two sets, 6-0 and 6-2. Wrapping up, Kiani played at No. 6 and was defeated by Smith Walker, 1-6 and 1-6.
