LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University women's tennis snapped up its first win of the 2024 season on Feb. 6 as they faced Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The Lady Braves defeated MGCCC with a score of 6-1.

At No. 1 doubles, Zoe Crimmel and Natalija Nikolic were defeated by the Lady Bulldogs' Angela Moreno and Danique Vermue, 4-6. Doaa Mohamed and Oihane Villanueva-Lopez played No. 2 doubles and defeated MGCCC's Valeria Callejo and Kendall Burn, 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, Nicole Kells and Aanya Rao defeated Lauren Sullivan and Mikenzy Dubrow, 6-3.

In singles play, Alcorn won all but one match. Mohamed played at No. 1 and defeated Moreno, 6-2 and 6-0. Kells defeated Callejo at No. 2 in three sets, 6-0, 4-6, and 10-3. Nikolic was defeated at No. 3 by Vermue in two sets, 4-6 and 2-6. At No. 4, Villanueva-Lopez earned the win over Burn, 6-0 and 6-1. Crimmel played at No. 5 and defeated Sullivan, 6-3 and 6-2. Rao wrapped up the match in the No. 6 position and defeated Strickland in two sets, 7-5 and 6-2.
