LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University softball held their home opener on Monday afternoon as they hosted Grambling State University at the Alcorn softball complex. The Lady Braves were defeated by the Lady Tigers in the doubleheader, 0-1 and 6-10.
Game One
    In the first game, Alcorn finished with no runs, four hits, and an error.
Kristian Edwards went 1-of-2 at the plate and stole a base.
Genise Wells went 1-of-3 at bat while
Paris Thompson went 1-of-1. Yahnya Acevado went 1-of-2 at the plate.
    Grambling finished with one run on two hits and no errors. Kamryn Broussard went 1-of-3 at bat while Lexi Hope went 1-of-3 and her pinch runner, Christalyn Higgins scored a run.
    Dacia Richard (4-2) picked up the win for Grambling with seven innings pitched allowed four hits, one walk, five strikeouts, and faced 26 batters.

Kiri Parker (2-7) suffered the loss for Alcorn with seven innings pitched allowed two hits, one earned run, two walks, eight strikeouts and faced 25 batters.
Game Two
Alcorn (5-16) scored six runs on six hits while committing five errors.
Olivia Miller had three at bats, scored a run, and an RBI.
Paris Thompson went 1-of-3 at the plate and batted a run in. Samantha Rodrigruez went 1-of-3, scored a run, and had two RBI.
Hannah Miller had two appearances and batted one in.
Genise Wells went 1-of-3 and scored a run.
Jillian Walters went 1-of-2 at the plate and scored a run.
Kelsey Lockridge and
Kiri Parker went 1-of-3 at the plate.
Kennedy Terry and Kamiya Dillon scored a run.
Grambling (9-10) scored 10 runs on nine hits while committing two errors. Tavia Leadon went 3-of-4 with a homerun, batted four in, and scored a run. Broussard went 2-of-5 at the plate, scored a run and a run batted in. Z'Natria Evans had two at bats, scored a run and batted one in. Peighton Krushell went 1-of-1 and batted two in. Katelynn Walls went 1-of-5 and scored two runs. Ta'mya Johnson went 2-of-4 at bat and scored two runs. Christalyn Higgins had one at bat and scored a run. Jayda Williams had two at bats and scored a run.
Jordan Hodge (2-1) picked up the win with 5.1 innings pitched allowed six hits, six runs, two walks, five strikeouts, and faced 25 batters.
Ta'Niyah Fletcher (0-3) suffered the loss with 3.2 innings pitched allowed five hits, six runs (four earned), four walks, two strikeouts, and faced 22 batters.
The Lady Braves will take the diamond against Prairie View A&M University in a series starting on March 15-16.
