Alcorn Softball Goes 1-3 to Close Regular Season

GRAMBLING, La. – Head Coach Eugenia Fernandez and Alcorn State University softball traveled to Grambling State University to make up a game and close out their regular season. The Lady Braves played a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday. ASU fought hard but went 1-3 against the Lady Tigers with scores of 0-6, 2-4, 1-0, and 4-6.

Game One
    The Lady Braves scored no runs on one hit with an error. Yahnya Acevedo had a hit for the game.

    GSU had six runs on 11 hits while committing an error. Nyah Jones finished the game with two hits and two batted in. Tavia Leadon had two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Jayda Williams finished the game with one hit and a run batted in.

    Dacia Richard picked up the win with a complete game pitched for a hit, 10 strikeouts, and 22 batters faced.

    Kiri Parker suffered the loss with six innings pitched for 11 hits, six runs, three walks, five strikeouts, two wild pitches, and 31 batters faced.

Game Two
    Alcorn scored two runs on six hits and no errors. Paris Thompson finished the game with a run batted in.

    The Lady Tigers scored four runs on seven hits while committing three errors. Katelynn Walls finished the game with one hit and one run batted in. Khahli Malone had an RBI while Deija Russell finished with two hits and an RBI.

    Erin Gibbs picked up the win with a complete game pitched for six hits, two runs (one earned), two walks, and 32 batters faced.

    Ta'Niya Fletcher took the loss for Alcorn with five innings pitched for seven hits, four runs, six walks, five strikeouts, four wild pitches, and 28 batters faced.

Game Three
    ASU scored one run on five hits and no errors. Parker finished the game with a run batted in.

    Grambling State scored no runs on five hits and no errors. Kamryn Broussard finished the game with a hit. Leadon, Jones, and Williams had a hit.

    Richard pitched a complete game for five hits, a run, two walks, six strikeouts, and 26 batters faced.

    Olivia Miller suffered the loss for the Lady Braves with a complete game pitched for five hits, three strikeouts and 27 batters faced.

Game Four
    ASU scored four runs on seven hits while committing an error. Kennedy Terry and Samantha Rodriguez had two hits and a run batted in. Genise Wells finished the game with an RBI.

    Grambling scored six runs on 13 hits while committing two errors. Malone and Lexi Hope finished the game with a hit and two runs batted in. Christalyn Higgins had two hit, a run, and an RBI. Leadon finished with a hit, a run, and an RBI.

    Jordan Hodge picked up the win for the Lady Tigers with 6.2 innings pitched for seven hits, four runs (three earned), four walks, one strikeout, and 32 batters faced. Janecia King earned the save with one batter faced.

    Ashanti Carter suffered the loss with four innings pitched for 13 hits, six runs, two walks, two strikeouts, and 27 batters faced.

    The Lady Braves finish the 2023 season 10-35, overall, and 5-19 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
