MONROE, La. – The Alcorn State women's tennis team fought hard but fell
4-0 to ULM on Friday afternoon at Heard Stadium. Despite the final score, the Lady Braves (3-8) put up a competitive effort in doubles play and had multiple unfinished singles matches that remained closely contested.
DOUBLES
The Warhawks secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Doaa Mohamed and Oihane Villanueva Lopez battled at No. 1 but fell in a close
7-5 decision. At No. 2,
Nikita Liyanage and Natalija Nikolic put up a strong effort before dropping a
6-4 match. The No. 3 doubles match was left unfinished.
Order of Finish: 2, 1
SINGLES
ULM extended its lead with wins at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 6 singles to clinch the match.
Mohamed was forced to retire at No. 1, giving ULM the early edge.
Ozi-Oiza Yakubu battled at No. 3 but came up short in a
6-1, 6-0 loss. The Warhawks also secured a default victory at No. 6.
Several matches remained unfinished, including
Nikolic's battle at No. 2, where she was trailing
6-2, 1-0 when play was halted.
Villanueva Lopez was in the second set of her match at No. 4, trailing
6-2, 2-1, while
Liyanage was engaged in a tight contest at No. 5, leading
6-5 before the match was left unfinished.
