VICKSBURG, Miss. – The Alcorn State men's tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches on Tuesday with a 5-2 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at the City Park Courts. The Braves (3-4) swept doubles play and claimed four singles wins to continue their strong run of form.
DOUBLES
The Braves started fast, securing the doubles point with wins on all three courts.
Nikola Kijac and David Leon Mantilla fought hard for a
7-5 win at No. 1, while
Emmanuel Cottle and Fabian Juarez claimed a
6-3 victory at No. 2.
Yangho Park and Tomas Grime dominated at No. 3 with a
6-1 win to complete the sweep.
Order of Finish: 3, 2, 1
SINGLES
Alcorn continued its momentum in singles play, winning four of the six matches.
Cottle delivered a gritty performance at No. 1, rallying for a
3-6, 6-1, [10-4] win in a match tiebreak.
Leon Mantilla followed with another comeback win at No. 3, prevailing in a third-set tiebreak.
At No. 4,
Kijac cruised to a
6-0, 6-2 victory, while
Park and
Grime dominated at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, to secure the team win.
Mississippi Gulf Coast picked up two wins, with
Faria securing a
6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2, and
Stroebel pushing his match at No. 3 to three sets before falling in a tiebreak.
