TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alcorn finished up a three-match weekend road swing on Saturday morning, as the Braves dropped a 4-0 decision to Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponent Alabama at Roberta A. Baumgardner Tennis Facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Alcorn (3-6) faced off against what was the Braves second consecutive SEC opponent after dropping a 4-0 decision away to Mississippi State on Friday in Starkville, Mississippi.
Alabama (5-0) opened the match claiming the doubles point, as the Crimson Tide swept the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively.
The Braves' team of
Amelia Tatafu and
Hana Bajramovic went unfinished at the No. 1 spot, but the Braves' duo gathered a game from the Tide's top-flight doubles tandem before it was abandoned with the hosts leading things 5-1. The Tide gathered a 6-0 win in No. 3 doubles with Addison Bowman and Amina Salibayeva downing Alcorn's tandem of
Taylor Briffa and
Katherine Grados. Alabama closed the point on court two with Klara Milicevic and Maria Andrienko laying claim to a 6-0 win from the Braves'
Zoe Crimmel and
Oihane Villanueva Lopez.
In singles play, Alabama went up 2-0 in the match with Karla Bartel's 6-0, 6-0 win over Alcorn's
Oihane Villanueva Lopez in the No. 4 position.
Taylor Briffa was able to gather an opening set game from Alabama's Amina Salibayeva in No. 5 singles, before the Tide freshman responded to tally the 6-1, 6-0 win.
The match was decided with Alabama's Mary Sidelnyk recording a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win from Alcorn's
Katherine Grados at No. 6 singles.
The Braves look to rebound Tuesday, Feb. 10, as Alcorn continues its road swing at Southeastern Louisiana at 2 p.m.
