LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn Athletics has announced events and the kickoff time for the 2026 Football Spring Showcase set for Saturday, April 11, taking place at Jack Spinks – Marino Casem Stadium on the Alcorn campus beginning at noon in Lorman, Mississippi.
 
The theme for the weekend is "A Taste of Alcorn," where the campus community under the direction of Dr. Tracy M. Cook – Alcorn State University President, can experience a "taste" of what it is like to be at Alcorn with so many things the campus and community have to offer.
 
"This isn't just a football game, it's a celebration," said Alcorn Football Head Coach Cedric Thomas. "We want families to come out, bring the kids, enjoy everything this campus has to offer, and feel what it's like to be part of the Alcorn Family. That's what this weekend is all about."
 
The weekend action begins Friday, April 10, as Alcorn Softball hosts the first of a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series against Western Division foe Texas Southern. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
Following the softball game, a special "Game Night" on the Alcorn campus begins at 6 p.m. More details will be provided closer to the event.
 
As always, tailgating and RVs are encouraged to attend, as they are an intricate part of the football game day experience throughout the weekend.
 
Saturday provides a host of events for children of all ages.
 
The day begins at noon with local food vendors and tastings, music from DJs and local artists, giveaways, prizes and much more. There is also scheduled to be a "cook-off" competition between fans showcasing their best tailgate traditions and cooking skills.
 
An alumni football game will take place immediately before the Alcorn Football Spring Game Showcase.

"This is what we've been working toward all spring," continued Thomas, recently concluding his second year at the helm in Lorman. "Our guys have put in the reps, they've been in the film room, they've been in the weight room – and now it's time to show our fans what Alcorn Football is all about. We want to come out here and compete at a high level and give everybody something to be excited about heading into the fall."
 
The game will feature two (2) 20-minute halves with a running clock. There will be a special scoring system for the game, which will also feature celebrity coaches, which are set to be announced at a further date as well.
 
After the game, a battle of the bands between local high schools is scheduled to take place in the stands in conjunction with the Alcorn Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite, while local Pee-Wee Football teams compete on the gridiron showcasing their skills as well.
 
Later Saturday evening, an alumni event is scheduled to be held in Vicksburg, Mississippi. A time and location for the event will be announced closer to the date.
 
"Events like this are a recruiting tool in the best possible way," stated Thomas. "When a prospect's family comes out and sees the atmosphere, the facilities, the brotherhood – that sells itself. We don't have to say much. We just have to show up and be Alcorn. That's the energy this place brings, and the love it shows everyone that comes to Lorman."
 
Coinciding with the day's action on Saturday, a raffle from the Department of Athletics will take place with fans having a chance to win one of three prizes:

1. Two tickets and accommodations to the 37th Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis, Tennessee;
2. Two tickets and accommodations to Homecoming 2K26;
3. An Alcorn bomber jacket

 
Fans can also meet and greet the 2026 Braves Football team while getting posters signed and much more following the game.
