VICKSBURG, Miss. – The Alcorn women's tennis team rolled to a 5-0 shutout victory over Mississippi Valley State on Thursday afternoon at Halls Ferry Tennis Courts, sweeping every completed match in dominant fashion to pick up a key Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) win in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Alcorn (6-16, 3-4 SWAC) secured the doubles point early, with
Zoe Crimmel and
Oihane Villanueva Lopez opening the scoring by blanking Mississippi Valley State's Tori Carter and Princess Bass 6-0 on court three.
Katherine Grados and
Natalija Nikolic followed with an equally decisive 6-0 victory for the Purple and Gold over Lilly Gansauge and Nina Schiks at the No. 2 spot.
The top doubles match featuring
Hana Bajramovic and
Amelia Tatafu was left unfinished after the team result was already in hand.
The Braves carried that momentum into singles play without missing a beat.
Matea Andelic, Crimmel,
Oihane Villanueva Lopez and
Katherine Grados each posted emphatic 6-0, 6-0 victories at positions six, two, four and five, respectively.
Hana Bajramovic and
Natalija Nikolic were well in control of their individual matches at No. 1 and No. 3 singles when play was halted with the outcome decided.
In the loss, MVSU falls to 0-9 overall, and a 0-7 mark in the SWAC.
The Purple and Gold conclude the regular season Saturday, April 11, traveling to in-state foe Jackson State for a SWAC match in Jackson, Mississippi. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
