LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn Cheer continued its commitment to community engagement and youth outreach with two impactful appearances during the month of April, visiting local schools to uplift and inspire students ahead of important academic milestones.
Â
On Friday, April 10, members of the Braves cheerleading team traveled to Eva Gordon Lower Elementary School in Magnolia, Mississippi, where they participated in a high-energy pep rally designed to motivate students preparing for upcoming state assessments. The team delivered an engaging performance that included chants, stunts, and interactive moments with students, encouraging confidence, focus, and school pride.
Â
Dr. Timothy Queen, head coach for Alcorn Cheer, highlighted the significance of these outreach efforts.
Â
"Giving back is a fundamental part of who we are as a program," stated Queen. "It's important for our student-athletes to understand the influence they have – not only as performers, but as role models. When we step into these schools, we're there to inspire, to encourage, and to remind students that they can achieve anything with confidence and determination. These moments are just as valuable as any performance we give on the field or court."
Â
Continuing their outreach efforts, the team made a second appearance on Friday, April 24, at Vicksburg Intermediate School in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Â
In nearby Vicksburg, the Braves once again brought enthusiasm and encouragement to students through a spirited pep rally performance. In addition to entertaining, the cheerleaders emphasized the importance of hard work, perseverance, and maintaining a positive mindset during testing season.
Â
These visits reflect the program's broader mission of service and leadership beyond campus, using their platform to make a meaningful impact in surrounding communities near the Alcorn campus.
Â
The Alcorn Cheerleading program remains dedicated to fostering school spirit while also investing in the growth and success of young students throughout the region.
Â
"Whenever we go to these schools, the kids are excited about seeing us and having us there," continued Queen. "We want to continue engaging with them and always being present in the community. Those smiles and the participation and energy we receive, it just doubles down on the fact Alcorn is more than just a school – it is a family."
