Fuquay-Varina, NC - Alcorn State quarterback Jaylon Tolbert has been named HBCU National Co-Player of the Week (Plez Lawrence). Tolbert willed his team back from a 14-point fourth quarter deficit in the Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis, forcing overtime with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Damien Jones late in the fourth. Tolbert tossed his fifth touchdown pass of the game in the first overtime period and then the Braves defense stopped a two-point conversion in the second overtime period as the Braves defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 53-51.
Tolbert racked up 521 yards of total offense. He completed 32-of-45 passes for 485 yards with five touchdowns and rushed for another 36 yards on seven carries while not being stacked in the game.
