Summary

Biography

Hughes was honored with the coveted Walter Payton Achievement Award in 2016. The award, which recognizes exemplary student-athletes, shining a light on character and embodiment of team spirit, was handed out by Walter Payton's son Jarrett Payton. It was voted on by fans from July 20-Aug. 19 at meacswacchallenge.com. Hughes, from Macon, Mississippi, was one of six finalists for the award.
 
Hughes played in all 11 games as the Braves sure-handed wide receiver in 2015. He turned in a solid performance at the 2015 Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl with four catches for 51 yards.
 
The versatile wide-out and return man — the third person in his family to wear the No. 5 – is also on the Alcorn track & field team.
 
"He is the true definition of a hard worker both on and off the field," said head coach Fred McNair.
 
Hughes missed the 2016 season due to injury.
