Demetrius Howse rejoined Alcorn State University Athletics in June 2025 as Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications. In his role, Howse oversees all aspects of the department’s media and public relations operations, including the coordination of coverage for 14 intercollegiate athletic programs, website content management, and the supervision of statistical and creative services. He also serves as the primary media contact for football, women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, and men’s and women’s tennis.

Howse is no stranger to Alcorn, having previously served as Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications from May 2023 to May 2025. During that time, he played an integral role in strengthening the Braves’ media presence, enhancing digital content strategy, and expanding storytelling efforts across Alcorn’s social and web platforms. His leadership elevated the department’s visibility within the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and beyond, while maintaining the proud traditions of Alcorn’s athletic excellence.

Before his most recent tenure in Lorman, Howse served as Assistant Director of Communications for the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in Arlington, Texas, from September 2022 to May 2023. At the WAC, he managed media operations for multiple Olympic sports, including women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, and tennis, while overseeing weekly and postseason award selections. His work in the conference office provided valuable experience in managing communications for a diverse group of institutions and sports across a wide geographic footprint.

Prior to his time with the WAC, Howse served as Associate Director of Strategic Communications at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from August 2021 to August 2022. In that capacity, he was responsible for the overall coordination of media plans for 15 intercollegiate sports, serving as the primary contact for men’s basketball, volleyball, softball, and tennis, and assisting with football communications. He also helped script and produce a bi-weekly television program highlighting Southern Athletics, showcasing his versatility in both traditional and digital media production.

From January 2020 through July 2021, Howse was the Coordinator of Athletic Media and Public Relations at Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Mississippi. There, he managed the athletic website, handled statistical data and game-day operations, and led the department’s social media initiatives. His work contributed to renewed engagement across Delta Devil athletics platforms and enhanced visibility for the student-athlete experience.

In addition to his full-time collegiate positions, Howse has maintained a long-standing relationship with the Southwestern Athletic Conference as a communications contractor since 2018. His work with the SWAC includes game-day statistical coordination, postgame media operations, social media content production, and graphic design for championship events.

Howse’s professional experience also includes time as a Gameday Communications contractor with the Arlington Renegades of the XFL, where he contributed to press box operations, on-field support, and postgame press conference coordination. His background in media logistics and event management spans both collegiate and professional levels of competition.

Earlier in his career, Howse developed his foundation in sports communications and operations at Texas Southern University in Houston. From 2011 to 2015, he worked in the Tigers’ sports information office as a statistician and media relations assistant before transitioning into the role of Special Assistant for football from 2015 to 2018. In that position, he worked closely with the head coach and staff, managed daily team operations, coordinated media interviews, and produced social media and video content to promote the program.

A native of Lancaster, Texas, Howse earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Texas Southern University in December 2017 and an Associate of Arts degree from Vision International University in Ramona, California, in May 2009.

Known for his attention to detail, creativity, and leadership in athletic communications, Howse continues to represent the standard of professionalism and excellence that defines Alcorn State University Athletics.
