Dr. Timothy D. Queen is an accomplished educator, cheerleading coach, mentor, and leader with nearly two decades of experience in education and extensive experience in collegiate and competitive cheerleading. He currently serves as the Head Cheerleading Coach at Alcorn State University, where he is entering his second year of leadership with a vision centered on excellence, discipline, leadership, and the continued advancement of the Alcorn State Cheerleading Program. Dr. Queen was hired August 2025.
A native of Natchez, Mississippi, Dr. Queen began his cheerleading career at Natchez High School, where he participated as a cheerleader and mascot. He continued his collegiate cheerleading career at Alcorn State University from 2002–2005, serving as Team Captain during his senior year. His experiences as a student-athlete helped establish the foundation for his passion for coaching, mentorship, leadership, and developing student-athletes both on and off the mat.
Dr. Queen began his coaching career at South Atlanta High School in Atlanta, Georgia, from 2017–2018. He later served as the cheerleading coach at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky, from 2018–2021, where he played an instrumental role in rebuilding and strengthening the program. Under his leadership, the program experienced significant growth and developed into an award-winning cheerleading program.
Throughout his coaching career, Dr. Queen has been recognized for his expertise in cheerleading education, safety, judging, and coach development. He has been selected to serve with organizations including the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), National Cheerleaders Association (NCA), and the Georgia High School Association (GHSAA) Inaugural Committee for Competitive Cheer. His work with the GHSAA committee contributed to establishing the groundwork for competitive cheerleading to become a sanctioned sport for high school programs throughout the state of Georgia.
Dr. Queen has also served as a Coaches and Advisors Trainer for the Universal Cheerleaders Association and as an ACCAA Safety Certifier. Additionally, he has served on the College Cheerleading Advisory Boards for both UCA and NCA, contributing his knowledge and experience to the continued development of collegiate cheerleading. His professional experience includes serving as a GHSAA Competitive Cheer Judge and judging numerous national high school cheerleading championships.
Beyond cheerleading, Dr. Queen is a dedicated educator who has served students and schools since 2007. His professional experience includes working in educational settings in Jackson, Mississippi; Atlanta, Georgia; and throughout Mississippi, where he continues to inspire students, support educators, and promote academic and personal excellence.
Dr. Queen earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Alcorn State University in 2005 and 2012, respectively, and earned his Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership in Higher Education from Morehead State University in 2022. He is also a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, reflecting his continued commitment to Achievement.
As both an educator and coach, Dr. Queen believes that athletics is an extension of education and that student-athletes should be challenged to develop discipline, confidence, leadership, accountability, and a commitment to excellence. His continued mission is to develop well-rounded student-athletes who excel academically, athletically, professionally, and personally while proudly representing their institutions and communities.
Dr. Timothy D. Queen continues to build his legacy through education, leadership, coaching, and service—while proudly carrying forward the tradition and spirit of Alcorn State University.
