HOUSTON, Texas – The Alcorn State University men's and women's track and field teams continue their indoor seasons this Friday at the University of Houston's Leonard Hilton Invitational, which will be held at the Yeoman Fieldhouse.

Field events are scheduled for an 11 a.m. start with the women's weight throw, while running events will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the women's and men's 60m hurdles. Final races will open with the women's 200m dash at 2 p.m. and will continue through the men's 4x400m relay at 7:35 p.m.

In addition to Houston and Alcorn, other teams competing at the Invite include Army, LeTourneau, Oklahoma, Rice, St. Benedict, Texas Southern, and Trinity (San Antonio).

"This is our first time in two years that we're competing at the University of Houston," said head coach Brian Johnson. "We should do pretty good, but we just started lifting again, so we're pretty sore. I know we can still put on a show and continue to work and get better as a team."

The Lady Braves had a good showing at the LSU Invite last Friday as Nathalya McMillion and Tymesha Nabors turned in times of 59.93 and 1:00.51 to place fifth and sixth in the 400m dash. Shaquanda Hill was sixth in the 500m run (1:20.48) and Evette Griffin took seventh in the 200m dash (26.89).

The women's 4x400m relay team of McMillion, Nabors, Hali Jones, and Tesha Lane posted a 4:05.50 to earn a seventh-place finish. Justice Edwards cleared 5.37m (17-07.42 feet) to grab fourth in the long jump.

On the men's side, Bralon Robinson reached the 60m finals, where he ran a 6.84 to come in sixth. Justin Hines was fourth in the 200m (23.05), Lane Ross and James Stirgus went fifth and sixth in the 400m (51.30; 52.84), and Tyreq Miles was sixth in the mile run (5:00.84). The 4x400m relay team of Darius Major, Ross, Kemar Cumberbatch, and Jeremy Gamble combined for a 3:34.16, good for fourth overall.

Freshman J'Koven Celestine, named the SWAC men's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, will look to build off his successful jumps last week. The Port Arthur, Texas native placed third in the triple jump after leaping 14.18m (46-06.25 feet) and was seventh in the long jump with a mark of 6.69m (22-03.25 feet) to lead conference athletes in both events.

"J'Koven is just what I thought," added Johnson. "He's a freshman that has made an immediate impact on my team. He is dedicated and determined to be the best jumper in the conference."
