Braves Win First Game of the Season

Junior forward Willis Brownlee tipped in a missed shot at the buzzer enabling the

Alcorn State Braves to come back from a 21 point deficit to post their first win of

the season 75-73 over Grambling on the road Monday.

The Brownlee bucket highlighted a frenzied comeback by the Braves who

outscored the G-Men 48 to 34 in the last half.  Kendrick McDonald scored ALL of his 17 in the second half, Marquiz Baker tallied  15 of his 20 and  Brownlee netted nine for the winners.

The win saw the Braves go to 1-13 overall and 1-3 in SWAC play. They will

host Ms. Valley State Saturday the 15th and UAPB Monday the 17th in

the Davey Whitney Athletic Complex.  The Braves trailed 39-27 at halftime, and then coach Larry Smith  put  guard Alex Savannah in, and the Braves started running and gunning. They by led seven at one point late in the last half, but the Tigers  came charging back  to tie it on  Justin Patton's two free throws. That set the stage for Brownlee who tipped in McDonald's missed jumper.

Baker led all scorers with 20, followed by McDonald's 17, Jamar Ragland's 13 and Brownlee's 10. Brownlee also led ASU in rebounds with seven.
Patton led the Tigers with 19 who fell to 3-13 overall and 1-3 in the SWAC.
