Alcorn State, MS—The
Luther Riley era officially got underway tonight as Alcorn State defeated Blue Mountain College, 76-39.
Alcorn State commanded a 27-16 lead over Blue Mountain going into half time.
“We would like to thank the supporters, alumni, fans for coming out. I am happy that we were able to come away with a win and we are always looking for improvement. The team came out with a lot of enthusiasm and defended the ball pretty well and offense was able to get a few jump shots. We are looking forward to next game,” said Riley.
“The coaching staff always emphasize to the basketball team that we are a team sport and if we play as a team it makes our offense more efficient and harder to defend if you share the basketball,” stated Riley.
The Braves out rebounded the Toppers, 24-13.
The Braves had five players in double digits:
JaMichael Hawkins (17), Marquis Baker (15),
Chris Brand (14) and
Xavian Rimmer (11) and Twann Oakley (11).
Alcorn State shot 59% from field goal range, and 77.8 percent from the charity stripe.
Alcorn State will travel to Morgantown, West Virginia to face West Virginia on November 17
th.
