Grambling State guard Donald Qualls canned a three pointer with 8.3 seconds to play as the Tigers withstood a three pointer by Alcorn State's Kendrick McDonald to snap the Braves two-game win streak 61-60 Monday night in the Davey L. Whitney Athletic Complex in Alcorn State, MS.
The Braves led by as many as 15 points in the last half but could not contain the outside shooting of Qualls and Joseph Patton who led all scorers with 22 points. Qualls ended up with 14 for the Tigers who are now 3-8 in the SWAC and 5-18 overall.
The Braves, who led 35-28 at halftime, were only 11 for 27 in field goal attempts the last half, missing easy layups and tip ins. Marquiz Baker led the Braves scoring with 16 points and McDonald and Jamar Ragland each had 13. ASU is now 3-8 in SWAC play also, and 3-18 overall.
The Braves, outrebounded 45 to 29, will face MS Valley State Saturday in Itta Bena in a 4PM starting time.
