Alcorn State junior outfielder Jann Butler of Moss Point, Ms. cracked a two-out two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the Braves to a come-from-behind 5-4 SWAC win over arch rival Jackson State Friday in Alcorn State, MS.
The Braves entered the bottom of the eighth trailing the Tigers 3-1. JSU had gone ahead 3-0 in the top of the fifth when Mason Babibineaux singled in two runs. He later scored on a ground out. ASU's Gabriel LeBron opened the 8
th with a single and pinch runner
Justin Barney then stole second. After a fly out, two straight Braves reached on JSU fielding errors. After a Kirby Perdomo strikeout, Butler smacked his double to right field to bring in the go ahead runs. Butler later scored what proved to be the winning run. The decision went to
Brent Blaum who relieved Steve Easter who pitched seven innings. Easter allowed eight hits, striking out six. Blaum pitched two innings yielding three hits in the top of the ninth but getting Babineaux and Charles Epperson to both fly out with men on first and second.
The losing pitcher was Quartarius Drains who went seven and two-third innings. He struck out 10 including the side in the first inning. He was undone by infield errors. The Braves and Tigers will meet in a doubleheader starting at 12Noon Saturday at Willie 'Rat' McGowan Park in Alcorn State, Ms.
