The Alcorn State baseball Braves
Angel Rosa scored on a throwing error by Ms. Valley's Ricky Hefflinger from third base on an infield single by
Edgardo Salas and nipped Ms. Valley State 10-9 in the bottom of the 11
th inning at Alcorn State Sunday.
The win moved the Braves into first place in the East Division of the SWAC with a 10-4 record, one-half game ahead of Jackson State which is 10-5. The Delta Devils fell to 9-5 in the East. Overall the Braves are 12 and 19 and MVSU is 13-19 with a makeup game looming in the future.
The Braves were holding an 8-3 early lead after scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Kirby Perdomo doubled in a singling Antoin Morales. Eduardo Gonzalez doubled in Perdono. Rosa then doubled in Gonzalez and Al Jackson.
Brave pitcher
Cole Vicars couldn't silence the Delta Devil bats though and they came back to score five in the top of the seventh. Jerry Hildreth singled in Derek Wallace, Hornstra doubled in two more and Hornstra came in on a sacrifice fly by Matt Burton for an eight all tie.
The Valley went ahead 9-8 in the top of the tenth when Curtis Ford scored on Luke Walker's single.
ASU tied it in the bottom half when Morales was walked by Morris Jones with the bases loaded. Jones then struck out Perdomo and pinch hitter Darryl Parks to send it to the 11th inning.
Winning pitcher
Ryan Fuentes retired MVSU in order in the top of the 11
th, setting the stage for the Braves in the bottom to score the winning run. Fuentes picked up his first win of the season, he is 1-0, and Jones, who won Saturday, is now 1 and three overall.
The first place Braves travel to Baton Rouge Wednesday to meet nationally ranked LSU in a 6:30 contest. They then meet Jackson State in a single game Friday starting at 6PM.
