Alcorn State, MS—Grambling State secured their first SWAC victory with a nail biter against the Braves.
Alcorn State took the early lead for the first five minutes before the Tigers took the driver seat. The score was tied five times, but Grambling pulled ahead to hold the halftime lead by two, 35-33.
The Lady Braves lead was short-lived as the Lady Tigers' Ceazer banked a shot to give Grambling a one-point lead. Grambling continue on their scoring streak and maintained a seven point half time lead, 22-15.
The Braves came out strong in the second half to tie the game, 35-35. Grambling would take a brief lead before Alcorn State tied the game at 37-37. Scoring possession changed between the Braves and Tigers before
Chris Brand's free throw gave Alcorn a one point advantage over Grambling.
Grambling State re-gained possession but Alcorn State chipped away at the lead to tie the game at 55-55 with 7:07 remaining. The Tigers and Braves continued to trade leads until the final seconds when Brandon Dorsett gave Grambling the one point lead and victory.
Alcorn State shot 56.9% from field goal range while hitting 10 of 12 (83.3 %) at the free throw line.
Quincy Roberts of Grambling led all scorers with 26 points. Ken McDonald was the Braves leading scorer with 22 points while
Twann Oakley,
Chris Brand and
Ian Francis held double digit scoring with 14, 12 and 10 points respectively.
