Breedlove shooting over A&M defender
Alcorn State, MS—Alcorn State pulled off a come from behind victory over Alabama A&M to improve to 6-2 in SWAC Action.
First half action for both teams proved to be very defensive as both teams had multiple turnovers and missed shots before Alabama A&M edged a 10-8 lead. Both teams battled to tie the lead before Alcorn State commanded the lead with 2:36 remaining until the half.
A Lady Braves turnover provided Alabama A&M the momentum they needed to capture a four point lead going into the locker room with a score of 20-16.
The Lady Bulldogs continued to feed off of the first half momentum as they remained in control of the game for the large part of the second half. A jumper by
Sharnika Breedlove allowed Alcorn to tie the game at 44-44 with 1:45 remaining. With time winding down, the momentum finally shifted in the favor of the Lady Braves as
Renelle Richmond came up big in the final minute to knock down a lay-up and free throw to give a 2- point advantage to Alcorn.
Kiara Ruffin's two free throws gave the Lady Braves some extra cushion in the final seconds of the game.
Alcorn State shot 33.3% from field goal range while hitting 11 of 15 (73.3 %) at the free throw line.
Whiquitta Tobar of Alabama A&M led all scorers with 16 points.
Renelle Richmond posted 14 points for the Lady Braves in their victory, with 13 of her points coming in the second half.
