Houston, TX—Alcorn State ushered in the SWAC season with a 87-52 loss to the Texas Southern Tigers.
Alcorn State stayed within striking distance during the first fifteen minutes of the first half before Texas Southern pulled away and pushed their lead into double digits.
The Braves trailed by 22 at the half with a score of 43-21.
In the second half, the Braves could not create a scoring drive to keep consistent with the Tigers.
Alcorn State shot 37.5% from field goal range while hitting 11 of 16 (68.8 %) at the free throw line. The Braves were 5 for 16 (31.3 %) from downtown.
Alcorn State was outrebounded 41-30 and committed 29 turnovers.
Twann Oakley and Ken McDonald coasted the Braves with 14 and 13 points respectively.
