Alcorn State, MS---The Braves captured their first SWAC victory by holding off Jackson State, 63-60.
The Braves got on the board early with key shots from Ken McDonald, Twann Oakley and Ian Francis. Alcorn State built a powerful lead and continued to put pressure on Jackson State leading by as much as 18 points in the first half.
Alcorn State commanded a 15 point lead at half-time, 34-19.
The Braves came out strong for the second half before the Tigers took the lead inside the two-minute mark. Alcorn State battled back to regain the lead as they held off Jackson State in the final seconds to claim the victory.
Alcorn State shot 40% from field goal range while hitting 18 of 27 (66.7 %) at the free throw line. The Braves out-rebounded the Tigers 26-22 and were 5 for 12 (41.7 %) from downtown.
Twann Oakley led the Braves with 17 points while Christian Williams led all scorers with 18 points.
