Braves Release 2013 Baseball Schedule

The Alcorn State Braves baseball team released their baseball schedule for the 2013 season which features 54 games and 16 home games.

The Braves face another year of stiff competition with 18 non-conference games.  Nine of the 16 non-conference teams posted winning records last season and four schools made it to the NCAA Tournament.

“I approach the schedule two ways,” said head coach Barrett Rey.  “Of course we want to win every game but I also believe that if we can play during the week then we should be prepared for the weekend series against our conference teams.  Playing a tough schedule also allows our younger players to get some “young guys innings” and that way we can find out how to use them during conference play.

The Braves start the season on the road for the month of February.  Opening-day for the Braves is on Feb. 15 as they travel to Monroe, LA to face Wake Forest and Louisiana-Monroe in the ULM Baseball Tournament.  The Braves then play two games against Oklahoma State on the 19th and 20th and close out February with three games at the USM Invitational.

On March 2-3 the Braves host Alabama State for their home opener which will also start conference play. A few days later they welcome the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State.  The Braves hit the road again for eight straight games against Tennessee, New Orleans, Mississippi Valley, and Louisiana Tech.  Rival Jackson State comes to town for a three-game series on the 22nd and 23rd.  The following week the Braves travel to Starkville, MS to face SEC opponent Mississippi State and it's back at home the next day against Arkansas Pine-Bluff.  The Braves finish the month of February.

The entire month of April will pose a challenge for the Braves.  On the 2nd, the Braves will play top-ranked LSU.  They hit the road again at Alabama State, Alabama, South Florida, and Louisiana-Lafayette before returning home against Mississippi Valley for a weekend series on the 21st and the 22nd.

The Braves wrap up their season beginning May 1st with a trip to Grambling.  They play their final home games on the 4-7 hosting Alabama A&M and Grambling.  A three game series at Indiana State will conclude the season for the Braves.

The SWAC Tournament is set for May15-19.
