Southeastern Louisiana nips Lady Braves 59-54

Box Score

Lorman, MS-Poor-shooting and late turnovers cost the Lady Braves their first win of the season.  The Lady Braves pick up their eighth straight loss of the season by falling to Southeastern Louisiana 59-54 this afternoon at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

In the first half, the Lady Braves controlled the tempo jumping out to an 8-1 lead.  Tierra Frost came off the bench at the 15:16 mark and it didn't take long for her to get in the scoring column by knocking down a 3-pointer to start a 14-4 run for the Lady Braves.  The Lady Braves then found themselves leading the Lady Lions 29-15 which would be their largest lead of the game.  But the Lady Lions cut the lead to seven points going into the half with the Lady Braves up 36-29.

After the break, both teams would trade a few baskets until Lady Lions guard, Symone Miller hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 40-38 with 14:52 left to play.

Lady Lions guard Elizabeth Styles stole the ball off a turnover by the Lady Braves with 5:05 to play and was fouled.  Styles went to the line and made a pair of free throws to give the Lady Lions their first lead of the game 50-49.  The Lady Braves took the lead right back when senior Carolinisia Crumbly connected from the top of the key to go up 52-50.  But that was the last time the Lady Braves had the lead.

Lady Lions forward, Aja Gibson went 3-3 in the last two minutes of the game to give her team enough breathing room to seal the deal.

The Lady Braves shot a season-low 15% in the second half going 5-32 from the field.

Frost led all scorers with 19 points.  Crumbly scored 12 points, had eight rebounds and seven steals.  Senior Renelle Richmond chipped in 11 points.

The Lady Braves have a few days off before they hit the road to face Kentucky on Dec. 28 in their last non-conference matchup before SWAC play begins.  Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
