Buffalo, NY-The Alcorn State Men's basketball team travel to Buffalo, NY to take on the Canisius Golden Griffins in their third game of the Chevrolet Gotham Classic. With only two games left before conference play begins, head coach
Luther Riley and his ball club hopes to gain some confidence before returning home to face Prairie View. It won't be an easy task for the Braves but Coach Riley believes his team can come out with a victory in both of games. The Braves are led by Marquis Baker (23.5 ppg). Leantwan Luckett and
Anthony Nieves are also averaging in double figures with 11.8 and 11.2 ppg respectively.
Last Outing
The Braves (2-11) just returned from the West Coast after participating in the Cable Car Classic where they fell to Santa Clara 70-58 and also to SMU 67-52.
Return of Marquiz Baker
Senior guard
Marquiz Baker was back in action for the Braves after a foot injury that kept him out for the remainder of the 2011-12 season. Baker didn't seem like he missed a beat averaging 23.5 points in the Cable Car Classic and shooting 100% from the free throw line. Coach Riley hopes that with Baker back in the lineup will spark his team.
Scouting the Golden Griffins
The Golden Griffins are 8-3 on the season and 4-0 on their home floor. Guard Billy Baron (who is also the coach's son) leads the Golden Griffins in scoring, averaging 17.5 ppg. Harold Washington and Issac Sosa both are averaging 15.6 and 10.4 ppg, respectively. Baron recorded a career-high 30 points in their last game against No. 21-ranked UNLV. This is the second meeting between the two teams. Tip-off is at 6pm.
