Baton Rouge, LA--After battling twelve innings with Mississippi Valley, the Braves faltered 7-6 in Game seven of the 2012 SWAC Baseball Tournament.
With both teams having a scoreless first inning, Alcorn State jumped on the boards in the second inning as Gabriel Lebron's single to right field scored Jann Butler. The Delta Devils answered back when Candler Thomas singled up the middle to score Allen Cheek.
Valley took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third as Seth Milliorn's RBI single brought home Luke Brumfield. The Delta Devils would cushion their lead by two additional runs in the fourth inning as Billy Linney and Candler Thomas scored to make it a 4-1 ball game.
Despite having four non-scoring innings, Alcorn State managed to push out four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. Valley tied the game up with 5-5 as Edmund Cheathan scoring the lone run for the Delta Devils of the seventh inning.
The Braves attempted to get this going in the eighth inning as
Alvin Jackson doubled to left field.
Christian Hickman's RBI scored Jackson to give Alcorn a 6-5 lead. Once again, the Delta Devils mirrored the score at 6-6 with Cheatham's RBI single scoring Cheek.
With neither team scoring in the ninth inning, the game had three extra innings as Valley's Bonner single scored Cheek as the Delta Devils picked up the win.
Chris Broadway collected the win while
Ryan Fuentes recorded the loss for Alcorn.
The Braves will face Southern University at 9 AM tomorrow morning in an elimination game.
