Braves Drop Elimination Game to Jags, 8-6

Baton Rouge, LA--Alcorn State's dreams of repeating as SWAC Champs were dashed as Southern defeated the Braves 8-6 in Friday's elimination game.

The Jags opened up the scoring in the third inning with Lopez, Williams and McGriff scoring to give Southern a 3-0 advantage over Alcorn.

The Braves battled back in the fifth inning with Christian Hickman and Justin Barney scoring to have Alcorn only trailing by one run.  Alcorn's Eduardo Gonzalez hit a homer to left field and gave the Braves a 4-3 lead over Southern.

Southern regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning as they picked up two runs to make it a 5-4 ballgame.

Alcorn State tied the game as Christian Hickman's RBI single scored Jann Butler.

The Jags pushed out three runs in the home half of the eighth inning to recapture the lead, 8-5.

The Braves last at bat produced one run to come within two of the Jags but Alcorn was unsuccessful in making a repeat at the SWAC Championship.
