Alcorn State Clinches Second Place in SWAC Tournament

Alcorn State, MS--The Braves clinched the no. 2 seed in the Eastern Division and SWAC Tournament with a 4-3 win over the Hornets.

Alcorn State struck first with Ryant Piper scoring as Rodney Warren singled.  With both teams going scoreless for the next three innings, the Braves held a 1-0 advantage over Alabama State.

 The Hornets tied the game in the top of the fifth inning as Muniz reached on an error from the shortstop which scored Mims.  The Braves answered back in the  home half of the fifth with Alvin Jackson, Ryant Piper and Jann Butler scoring to give Alcorn a 4-1 lead.

Alabama State picked up two runs in the sixth inning to keep the game close with a 4-3 game.  Neither team scored in the final three innings as the Braves defeated Alabama State, 4-3.

Troy Williams captured the win for the Braves while T.J. Renda picked up the loss for the Hornets.
