Marquiz Baker scored a game-high 27 points to give the Braves their third straight victory tonight against Mississippi Valley. The Braves fight off a second half comeback to edge the Delta Devils 72-67.
It was the
Marquiz Baker show in the first half coming out and connecting from behind the arc to go up 3-0 early. Blake Ralling would hit a three pointer from downton for the Delta Devils to give open their lead up to six, 13-7.
Baker scored the next seven out of ten points for the Braves to take the lead back 17-13 with 13:10 left in the first half. Mississippi Valley retook the lead 19-18 by a jumper by Julius Francis.
The Braves opened up a 14 point lead on a with a layup and made free throw by
LeAntwan Luckett to put the score at 36-22.
Alcorn used a 15-3 run to close out the half and lead the Delta Devils 36-24 at the break.
After the break, the Braves picked up where they left off extending their lead to as many as 17 points when
Josh Nicholas connected on a baseline jumper. But the Delta Devils came charging back.
Guard Marcus Johnson knocked down a three-pointer to close the gap to four 69-65 with 1:19 left to play but it wasn't enough to overcome the damage that had been done by the Braves.
Luckett was the only other Alcorn player in double-figures racking up 19 points and five assists.
Darryl Marshall scored 21 points for the Delta Devils while Francis and Davon Usher chipped in 12 and 10 points respectively.
The Braves (6-14, 4-1) are back in action Monday night as they host UAPB. Tip-off is scheduled at 7:30 immediately following the women's game.
