Lady Braves Drop SWAC Opener to Prairie View

Box Score Lorman, MS-The Alcorn State Lady Braves looked to bounce back in their SWAC home opener after a disappointing lost to Kentucky last weekend.  But the Lady Braves were upended by the visiting Lady Panthers of Prairie View 64-52.

In a rematch of last year's SWAC Tournament Championship game, the Lady Braves went to work early when Tierra Frost came off the bench firing away.  Frost knocked down a three-pointer and made a layup to give the Lady Braves the lead.

Lady Braves shot a season-high 50% from the field in the first half and led 31-27 at the break.

In the second half, it was all about the visiting Lady Panthers.  Coming out of the locker, the Lady Panthers went on an 11-0 run to take the lead 38-31.  The gap would close to 49-43 at the 7:58 mark when Isis Smith made one out of two free throws but it wasn't enough to knock off the defending champs.

Prairie View outscored the Lady Braves 37-21 in the second half.

Frost led all scorers with 15 points and senior guard Carolinsia Crumbly added 13 points.

Prairie View was led by JaQunadria Williams with 14 points.  Latia Williams and Kiara Etienne added 13 points and 12 points respectively.

The Lady Braves are back in action Friday night against Texas Southern. Tip-off is at 5:30 pm.
