Box Score Montgomery, Ala.-The Braves dropped a close one tonight against the Hornets. A late jumper by Ryan Watts put the Hornets over the hump to defeat the Braves 49-46.
In the first half of play, the Hornets jumped out to an early 5-0 lead on a free throw by Joshua Freelove. Not too much later, Hornets forward Bobby Brown hit a three-pointer from downtown to give his team an 8-2 lead.
Marquiz Baker tied the game at 15-15 with a three-pointer at the 10:17 mark. The Braves took their first lead on pair of free throws by
LeAntwan Luckett, 17-15.
The Braves maintained the lead going into the locker room, 30-24.
In the second half, the Braves held a close lead until the 9:15 mark when Freelove nailed a three-pointer to tie the game at 37-37.
Senior guard
Anthony Nieves came back with a three-pointer of his own to put the Braves back up 42-39 with 8:18 left in the game.
The Hornets grabbed their first lead of the half on a jumper by Ryan Watt with 4:00 to play, 43-42. Brown game the Hornets their largest lead of the second half on a layup with 2:43 to play.
The Braves weren't out of it yet. Baker made a pair of free throws to cut the lead to one 45-44 with 1:30 left in the game. But a jupmer and one by Watts increased the lead to four points, 48-44 and the game was pretty much in the Hornets hands the rest of the way.
The Braves shot 29 percent on 15 of 51 from the field.
Baker finished with a game-high 21 points.
LeAntwan Luckett added 12 points.
Freelove led the Hornets with 18 points and Brown chipped in 14 points.
The Braves are back in action Saturday night as they welcome the first place Jaguas of Southern University. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
