Box Score Lady Braves fall to Texas Southern 61-45
Lorman, MS-Carolinisia Crumbly scored 13 of her 15 points in the first half but it wasn't enough tonight against the visiting Lady Tigers of Texas Southern. The Lady Braves drop their second SWAC contest to Texas Southern 61-45.
Both teams came out in the first half trading baskets but it was the Lady Tigers who stretched out the lead early. With 10:05 left in the first half, the Lady Braves found themselves down 18-8 when Lady Tigers guard Kayla West made a pair of free throws.
The Lady Braves fought back going on a 13-0 run to snatch the lead back when guard
Isis Smith forced a turnover and dished it to senior guard
Carolinsia Crumbly for a layup with 4:28 to go in the first.
Texas Southern overtook the lead once again with a layup by Briana Sidney and the Lady Braves were down at the half 30-26.
In the second half, the Lady Tigers came out of the locker room running opening up a 10-point lead, 36-26. The Lady Braves went almost seven minutes without a making a basket.
Renelle Richmond stopped the bleeding when she connected on a jumper to cut the lead to 45-39 with 7:05. About a minute later, sophomore guard Cortini Cooper hit a floater to cut the lead to four 47-43 but the Lady Braves faltered after closing the gap.
The Lady Tigers went on a 14-2 run to close out the game holding the Lady Braves to only two points in the last six minutes of the game.
Crumbly led the Lady Braves with 15 points. Tierra Frost scored 12 points and
Renelle Richmond added 11.
Brianna Sidney scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Kayla West added 11 points.
The Lady Braves fall to 0-11 and 0-2 in SWAC. Next up for the Lady Braves is Jackson State on Sunday, Jan. 6. Tip-off is at 3pm.
