Box Score MONROE, La. - The Lady Braves came out with tons of energy in the first half but costly turnovers in the second half hurt the Lady Braves in a 92-54 loss to tournament host Louisiana-Monroe on the final day of the Clarion Warhawk Classic.
The Lady Braves scored first on a layup by
Henrietta Wells with only 20 seconds into the first half to go ahead 2-0.
Immediately folllowing Wells basket, ULM's Elexar Tuglar nailed a three-pointer to give the Lady Warhawks a 3-2 lead.
Both teams traded baskets for the next seven minutes until Jasmine Shaw hit a jumper to up ULM's lead to 16-13 with 12:37 to play in the first half.
ULM continued to increase their lead on a made jumper by Sharnice Brooks. The Lady Warhawks now led 23 14 at the 10:03 mark in the first half.
Brooks struck again for the ULM at the 7:02 mark to give the Lady Warhawks their first double-digit lead of the first half, 29-19.
The Lady Braves fought back cutting into ULM's lead with six straight points by
Angelica Wilson-Reid to put the Lady Braves down 33-28 with 4:11 to go before the half.
A few seconds later,
Ashtin McNichols, who made her Lady Braves' debut last night vs. East Carolina hit a three-pointer to put the Lady Braves within four, 35-31 at the 2:17 mark.
But ULM's Alexa Tuglar got hot from the field scoring eight straight points including back-to-back three-pointers and a pair of free throws to push the Lady Warhawks lead to 43-33 with 2:17 to play before the half.
ULM maintained their double-digit lead and the Lady Braves were down 49-35 at the half.
The Lady Braves came out cold in the second half and ULM took advantage of the Lady Braves going on a 18-4 run to increase theri lead to 67-41 at the 13:23 mark.
ULM controlled the game from there holding the Lady Braves to only 19 second half points.
The Lady Braves committed a season-high 26 turnovers.
Tierro Frost led the Lady Braves with 13 points. McNichols and Wilson-Reid each added 11 points. Wilson-Reid also grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Lady Braves.
ULM had five players in double-figures led by Alexar Tuglar with a game-high 18 points. Brooks and Alayshia Hunter had 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The Lady Braves are back in action Thursday, Dec. 19 when they travel to Louisiana to face the Lady Rajun Cajuns' of Louisiana-Lafayette.
