Box Score Troy, Ala. – The Braves went into two overtimes with Troy before falling to the Trojans Monday night 73-70.
For the second consecutive game the Braves jumped out to a fast start. Sophomore Devontae Hampton hit scored five points and freshman
Marquis Vance made layup and the Braves found themselves ahead 7-0 with just over two minutes into the game.
Seven minutes later Troy's Kevin Thomas converted on a tip-in basket to tie the game at 13-13 with 11:02 to play in the first half.
Shortly after Troy tied the game, sophomore
LeAntwan Luckett scored four straight points to push the Braves lead back to 17-13.
Troy took their first lead of the first half, 24-23, on a basket and one by Antoine Myers with 5:15 left before the half.
The Braves retook the lead with 1:06 to play before the half on a jumper by Vance but the Braves trailed 35-33 at halftime.
After the half the Braves repeated the same scenario last Wednesday vs. Wright State coming out cold and allowing Troy to open up the second half on a 10-2 run. Troy had extended their lead to 10 points, 45-35 with 16:38 to play in the second half.
But the Braves fought back starting a 10-0 run of their own with Luckett tying the game at 45-45 on a made layup.
Sophomore
George Thomas gave the Braves their first lead of the second half 47-45 on a made layup.
Both teams traded baskets for the rest of the second half but the Braves had a chance to put the Trojans away leading by two, 60-58 with 1:21 to play. But a tip-in by Wes Hinton sent the game to overtime.
In the first overtime, junior college transfer
Octavius Brown fired away for the Braves hitting two three-pointers to give the Braves a 66-61 lead.
Troy went six for eight from the free throw line and sent the game into a second overtime tied at 66-66.
The Trojans would make 6 straight free throws in the second overtime period to win the game and hand the Braves their fourth loss of the season. The Braves did manage to get four points from senior guard
Anthony Evans.
Four players scored in double figures led by Luckett with 16 points and five assists. Vance scored 14 points. Hampton finished with 12 points and Brown recorded a double-double scoring 10 and snatching down 13 rebounds.
The Braves travel to Texas to face the Univ. of Houston next Monday at 7 p.m.
