Box Score Pine Bluff, Ark.-The Alcorn State Lady Braves lost their ninth straight SWAC contest tonight to Arkansas Pine-Bluff. The Lady Braves led most of the game but UAPB made some crucial free throws to defeat the Lady Braves, 50-47.
Lady Braves jumped out to an 8-2 lead on a pair of back-to-back three-pointers by freshman
Ather Cep. The Lady Golden Lions quickly closed the gap to 8-6 on a basket by Marion Thompson with 14:27 to play in the first half.
The Lady Braves maintained a slight lead until UAPB made seven straight free throws to give themselves a one point 15-14 lead with just under six minutes to go before halftime.
Tierra Frost nailed a three-pointer to retake the lead for the Lady Braves 19-16 and from there the Lady Braves started and finished the half on a 12-3 run
Alcorn led at the half 28-21.
Early in the second half, the Lady Braves extended their lead to nine 30-21 with 18:54 to play but the Lady Braves would go on a cold streak majority of the second half.
The Lady Braves went without a made basket for 9:30 minutes of the second half and the Lady Golden used a 10-0 run to tie the game at 31-31 with 11:58 to play in the game on a layup by Asia Rhines-Malone.
Junior Tierra Frost hit a three-pointer to stop the drought and tie the game at 34-34.
Both teams traded baskets for the next six minutes of the game. The Braves retook the lead 45-43 with 3:48 to go on a layup by
Rosemane Ambrose. Cortini Cooper extended their lead to three making 1 of 2 free throws to make the score 46-43.
The Lady Golden Lions cut the lead to one, 46-45 on a layup by Rhines Malone with 2:20 to go in the game. It was all about the Lady Golden Lions from there.
UAPB made five straight free throws to secure the win over the Lady Braves.
The Lady Braves shot 28 percent from the field.
Tierra Frost was the only Lady Brave in double figures with 10 points.
UAPB was led by Lakendra Marsh with 17 points. Rhines-Malone added 11 points
The Lady Braves (1-21, 1-12) host Alabama A&M this Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m.
