Braves Lose 4th Straight on Senior Night

Box Score Lorman, Miss.-The Alcorn State men's basketball were looking to snap their three-game skid against the visiting Hornets of Alabama State.  The Hornets shot 50 percent from the field to hand the Braves their fourth straight loss, 66-58

Senior guard Marquiz Baker started off the game with a long jumper to give the Braves an early 2-0.  But the Alabama State's Denzel McDaniel nailed a three-pointer to give the Hornets a 3-2 lead. 

The Hornets took charge of the lead until Stephane Raquil made a layup to give the Braves a one-point lead 13-12 lead with 13:12 left in the first half.

The Braves held their lead until Alabama State's Shawntez Patterson made a layup to tie the game at 17-17 with 8:15 to go in the first.

Both teams traded baskets all the way up to the break but Alabama State held a slight four-point advantage 31-27.

After the break, the Hornets extended their lead to 38-29 on a pair of made free throws by Luther Page with just under two minutes in the half.

The Hornets went on a 11-4 run on a three-pointer by Patterson to push the score to 51-38.  But the Braves went on a 10-0 run of their own to close the margin to 51-48 with just under six minutes left to play in the game.

Alabama State's Joshua Freelove made three straight free throws to extend the lead back to eight, 56-48.

The Braves fired back cutting the lead to two on a three-pointer by Devonte Hampton making the score 60-58 with 1:22 to go but the Hornets held on to the lead to knock off the Braves.

The Hornets outrebounded the Braves 34-22 for the entire game.

Baker led the Braves with 15 points.  LeAntwan Luckett added 14 points.

Alabama State had three players in double figures with Freelove leading the way with a game-high 19 points.  Phillip Crawford and Jamel Waters scored 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The Braves 9-21, 7-8 are back in action Saturday when they face Southern at 5:00 p.m.
