Lady Braves Fall Just Short of 2nd Consecutive Win

Box Score Prairie View, Tex.-Junior guard Tierra Frost scored a game-high 22 points tonight but the Lady Braves dropped a close one to Prairie View, 61-59.

The Lady Braves got off to a great start in the first half jumping on top of the Lady Panthers 7-2 on a three-pointer by senior forward Renelle Richmond

Later, Tierra Frost gave the Lady Braves their largest lead of the first half on a made fast break layup to make the score 14-8 at the 10:24 mark.

The Lady Braves held a close lead until Prairie View's Michaela Burton scored on a layup to give the Lady Panthers a 19-18 lead with 4:21 to go before the half.

Prairie View used a 11-3 lead to close the half with a 28-21 lead.  The Lady Braves had gone cold in the last two and a half minutes of the first half.

In the second half, Prairie View recorded their largest lead of the game at the 14:20 mark on three-pointer by Kiarra Etienne to extend the score to 40-29 but the Lady Braves were determined to put up a fight to the finish.

The Lady Braves went on a 15-2 run and took their first lead of the second half, 44-42, on a layup by Richmond with 8:40 to play in the game.  But Prairie View's Etienne nailed another three-pointer to retake the lead 45-44.  

Both teams traded baskets from there and the Lady Braves kept cutting into the lead until the time ran off the clock.  The Lady Braves shot 50 percent from the field for the game.

Richmond scored 14 points for the Lady Braves tonight while Au-Juvan Andrews chipped in 11 points.

Etienne led Prairie View with 18 points and Latia Williams added 14 points.

The Lady Braves travel down the road to face Texas Southern on Saturday night in their final game of the regular season.  Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m.
