Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - The Braves fought hard but wern't able to pick up their first SWAC win of the season losing to Prairie View 70-67 in overtime.
The Braves got behind early 14-3 to Prairie on some key misses and turnovers. But the Braves quickly turned the game around going on a 20-1 run to go ahead 19-14.
Prairie View regained the lead on a basket by Hershey Robinson to give the Panthers a 26-25 lead.
Marquis Vance makes a two-pointer to retake the lead and go into the half with a 29-27 lead.
Coming out of the locker room both teams traded baskets for while until the Braves opened the basket by Devontae Hampton to go ahead 43-37.
Vance struck again with another basket in the paing to give the Braves their largest lead of the second half, 47-40.
But back-to-back three's for the Panthers close the gap at 47-46.
Prairie View's John Brisco knocked down consecutive three-pointer's to give the Panthers their first lead of the second half, 52-51.
A few minutes later, with the Braves trailing by three, Hampton nailed a three-pointer to tie the game at 58-58. Hampton hit another big basket to give the Braves the lead 60-58. But a late foul by
Marquis Vance sent Brisco to the free throw line and he came through tying the game at 60-60 to send the game to overtime.
In overtime, Montreal Scott hit a three to give the Panthers an early overtime lead 63-60.
A made free throw by Vance and a layup by
Octavius Brown tied the game again at 63-63.
Once again turnovers and fouls cost the Braves and the Panthers went up five points and never looked back.
Brown led all scorers with 22 points. Vance added 18 points.
Brisco led Prairie View with 21 points while Montrael Scott chipped in 15 points.
The Braves are back in action this Saturday to face rival Jackson State at the Whitney Complex. Tip-off is set to begin immediately after the women's game at 5:00 p.m.
